Francis Thiafo dropped to Estoril’s quarterfinals
The 2018 finalist Francis Tiafos was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the clay tournament in the Portuguese city of Estoril with a prize pool of 524,340 euros. The American, placed under number 8 in the scheme, withdrew 0: 6, 7: 6 (5), 2: 6 to the specialist in the game of red courts Pablo Quevas of Uruguay. Tiafo was totally outraged in the first and third set by his experienced rival, and only in the second he managed to resist him.
In the semifinals, Kuevas will play with the young Spanish qualifier Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who had 6: 7 (2), 7: 5, 6: 4 over Frenchman Gael Monfys. The match went through a series of twists and a series of breakthroughs but also showed great sportsmanship.
In the middle of the third set Davidovich Fokina fell poorly, trying to reach a ball in the network of Monfis, and stayed on the ground. The Frenchman jumped the net and went to his rival to see if everything was right with him and helped him to stand up and earned the applause of the audience.
In the other semifinals of the program will meet the Greek, Stefanos Tsitsipas and the Belgian David Goffen. Cycpas defeated Joaquin Dominguez with 7: 6 (3), 6: 4, while Goffen crossed his needle against the Tunisian player Malek Jaziris to triumph with 4: 6, 7: 6 (4), 6: 2.
